July 31 Last Day @ KalSoftToday was my last day at work. I started working at Kalsoft in May last year and the last 14 months have had its fair share of ups and downs. It was a unique experience working there and I think I learned a lot. Apart from that the money was good and I enjoyed spending it but now I see that I wont be earning till my MBA ends, I regret not saving a sizeable amount.
Anyways the day didnt start as usual, we had a heavy downpour of rain yesterday and early morning and new heights were set. The underpass that our Government takes pride in development set a new world record when it completely submerged in water...hehe... I regularly take that way to work but today I had to choose a different route and getting to office didnt seem to be a problem it was getting back home... I was supposed to be at work by 10 as the CMMI L3 audit was scheduled for my project and I was half an hour late (hey I had a valid reason and so did everyone else) During lunch a few of my collegues forced yes forced me to treat them and I was left with another guy (who by the way is also leaving) and we had to treat them to lunch at Pizza Hut. I also had an Exit Interview scheduled for 15:00 and it went okay. Once all that was done I said my good byes to everyone, collected the Expereince letter and started one hell of a trip back home. It rained heavily during the day and had already been told that therez knee high water near my place. I didnt come across much water on the way however it all changed when I was within 5 minutes walk from my place. THe underpass that was completely submerged and the road going towards Teen Talwaar was filled with knee high water and I still dont know how I managed to drive my way through that much water. All eventualities came to an end and I was safely parked at home. June 17 whats all the wait for...Have u ever felt that what u r doing is just worthless and that u r meant for made for something bigger…like its ur destiny to do great things in life... I guess its just one of those days that makes u feel that way…you are waiting for something bigger to just appear, something bigger to drop by and like its just around the corner… Im just tired of waiting and want it to come now January 30 Rock for a CauseLets make it a night to remember… that’s exactly what it was, a night to remember in Karachi. It was the 29th of January 2006 and for the first time a notable western singer performed in Pakistan and it was no other than the Canadian Bryan Adams. That’s right Bryan Adams rocked for a cause and I was there. I wasn’t ready to miss this show but I wasn’t ready to pay for the show and I didn’t, got the tickets free of cost from a friend of a friend. Thanks dude. Anyways the show was just tooooo damn good. Bryan Adams performed for a cause and it was Shahzad Roy (who we all know sucks) who bought him to our town for a charity event. More than 10,000 people and I was one of them rocking to the beat of Summer of 69 and loads of other tracks. He performed for around 2 hours live and boy did that guy had the stamina to perform for such a long time without a break. Our local Pakistani singers need to learn something from him, they can hardly perform for an hour and most of the time its not even live. Those phonies have a recording running in the background and are only lip singing.
It was a sight to see, the Karachities showed that they can handle such events. More than 10,000 people and no phadda’s or anything and there was hardly any security personnel in the crowd. The notable comments came from none other than Shahzad Roy at the start of the show when he said “We have proved one thing here that Karachi is a safe city for events like these” and he is right about that. Now I cant wait for such events in the future and lets hope that U2 comes and performs here.
So how did my journey to the far off place started. Im not joking Country Club is a far off place. I drove 140 KM that’s day. It all started a night before the concert when a friend of mine (Saqib) told me that he was unable to arrange tickets for me. I was disappointed but believe it or not I knew that something would come up. So the very next day (the day of the concert) Saqib comes up to me in the morning and says “ho geya” it turned out that a friend of his wasn’t going to the concert and gave 4 tickets to Saqib and I got one of them. We picked up the tickets from his friends place and than our journey started. Came back home, got dressed and we were on our way to the Country Club. I picked up my car and was the one driving. Had to pick up a few people on the way that led me to the 3 corners of Karachi. First picked a friend from DHA Phase 1, than another friend from SMCHS, another from Gulshan and than drove some 30 km to the Country Club. It took us more than us approximately one hour and 30 minutes just to get there. At 19:00 we were finally inn, standing inside the venue along with thousands of people.
The show started a little later than the schedule time and Shahzad Roy came and sang a few of his looser songs. The only thing worth noting is that he didn’t performed for his personal glory and only performed for a half an hour a little less or more. The real show started when Bryan Adams came up to the stage at around 21:15 and immediately started rocking. We were expecting that he would start of with Here I am but instead sang a song from his new album, which by the way I haven’t heard it and didn’t recognized the song. Bryand Adams than shared 2 song with Shahzad Roy and after that it was all Bryan Adams. The crowd was going crazy and the way they made the stage was just too cool. The lightings were superb (the couples really enjoyed themselves :)…) the arrangement was extra-ordinary, a superb job by the management. Bryan wasn’t ready for the Pakistani public cause they refused to leave even after he left the stage. They kept calling him out and the poor soul came out 3 times just for us. He didn’t came out the 4th time infact on his 3rd time he started off by saying “this is my last song after that I have to go and eat something…” and his last two songs came without the support of his band and that was perhaps the best performance of the show and Cloud Number 9 was just too much to handle. The concert finally ended with a fireworks show and that too was just too good. The event was superbly managed, organized and held and the final fireworks knock with the fireworks was totally unexpected.
At 23:30 we were back in the car on our way home but decided to make a pit stop for Karhii and after that I dropped off my friends at their homes and at 02:30 in the morning I was at home, exhausted and lying on my bed.
The pics here have been taken from my cell which arent that good. For more clear pics visit http://diaryofawicked.blogspot.com/2006/01/bryan-adams.html December 16 Pakistan vs England, 3rd ODIwhat a match... After a long time an ODI cricket match was played in Karachi. It was Pakistan vs England and what a match it was. The visitors were outclassed in all aspects of the game. Pakistan batted first and put up their highest ODI score to date 354 in 50 overs and that was just too much for the English men to handle. A fine batting by almost everyone made sure that Pakistan won with Kamran Akmal setting an example by scoring another century (the last one came in the 2nd ODI 3 days ago)... all this was hapening and I can produly say that I was there. I was one of 33,000 ppl. watching the match in the stadium. Took a day off from work just to be part of the crowd and I have no regreats... Throughout the match we were chearing for our countries team and at the same time appreciating the opponents team aswell. The whole crowd came to enjoy the match and unlike the Aussie's and Indian's who are known for being cry babies and only chear for their team, the Pakistani crowd cheared for everyone. Even the commentaitors and the English team aknowledged it by saying that they had a noisy crowd and cheared at every piece of marvelous shot, ball or fielding. All in all I had a great day and cant wait for another match to be played back in Karachi. December 11 Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) ExaminationThat was the real deal... The CISA Examination was held yesterday, Dec 10, 2005 all around the world and I was one of the people who appeared for it... Im still not sure how it went but Im hoping to clear it so do pray for me...
The paper started at 9:00 AM but we had to report to the examination hall (Avari Towers, Karachi) before 8:30 as that was the time instructions for the exam started... it took around 35 min's for the instructions and the paper started at 9... The first hour went by so quickly and when it ended I was behind 10 Questions that should have been done....The paper had a total of 200 questions all MCQ that had to be done in 4 hours. I should have completed atleast 50 Q's per hour but was already laggin behing a good 10 questions when the first hour ended and it was then I realized that its nothing like the mock test (which by the way also had 200 MCQ's and I finished it in 3 hours). Pressure was taking its place and I was so nervous and scared at the same time, at the start of the examination. The last time I felt that way was way back in my Intermediate Examination days and had never felt anything like it throughout my university life. Anyways after the first hour I started picking up pace and was back on schedule when the 2nd hour ended, which bought some relief with it. During the paper I was marking down the questions whose answer I was not too sure about to review it later but didnt make the mistake of not marking it on the scantron sheet and thank God I didnt cause when the last 30 minutes were I had around 35-40 MCQ's to do but thankfully I completed those with 5 minutes to spare but it left me no time to review the answers that I planned on reviewing at the end. So the paper finally ended and it was the longest examination I had ever given with all my previous examinations had a maximum of 3 hours to complete. Sitting in one place for 4 hours concentrating on the exam and not letting ur mind wander of places u cant afford it to wander off too was really tough and for the time being I dont intend on appearing for any such examinations in the next year or so.
With the conclusion of the CISA examination bought another chapter of my life to an end. Preparing for it was a unique experience in its own way. I was preparing for it through an institute that deals with offering courses to executives. Studying with them was nothing like I had done in the past, I was the youngest among them at only 22 with the average course participants being in their early or mid 30's. This age bracket left little space for me to socialize as apart from preparing for the same course we had nothing in common. All an all it was a good experience and I wish all those who prepared or did not prepare with me and appeared for the examination all the best.
The last but not the least thing, I celebrated my freedom by going to the Pakistani Premier of the movie The Legend of Zorro and thanks to my cousin who provided me with the invitation only passes to it. The movie in my views good but not excellent and was just what the doctor prescribed :) It made me feel like the way I used to feel, careless and free
Well thats all I have to write do pray that I clear the exam.
Adios December 03 CISA Mock Test7 days to go... My CISA Certification Exam is on 10th and from today I wont have to worry about office for a week. My leaves are supposed to start from this monday and will last till the end of the working day of the week (friday)... Im hoping to capitialize these days and with full commitment prepare for the exam... lets hope I can do that... I didnt go to office yesterday cause I had a mock exam in the morning for which I hardly studied the way I should have studied. I was hoping to test all that I have prepared over the past 3 months and try my luck and see where I stand... I know Im making excuses trying to convince my self that its okay if u r not ready... I heard somewhere that writing about something you have no control over makes you feel better, but that doesnt exactly fit over here as I did have control over it and I simply choose something else...damn u Hashim Well anyways the mock went okay got 138 out of 200 which as per my instructor is the average score one gets in the mock exam...I should have dont better than average as the real thing is much bigger than the mock... I only went through the first 3 chapters (the 3rd one was just a read through) and based on that I think I can clear the real thing only if I study hard... lets hope I can do that... November 10 The Crazy PathanThe last few days have really been fun. On the last day of Eid I found out that there is this person who keeps calling her up on her cell and hangs up before she could receive it and when she calls him back he only says “Aaloo…kha kha kha” yea kha kha kha is the way that guy laughs. It sounds funny doesn’t it? I thought it did so I decided to give him a taste of his own medicine. It had been a while since I had so much fun, picking up a sort of fight with a complete stranger. And oh from what Iv heard of him he only speaks pashtu and doesn’t know a single word of urdu or atleast he hasn’t said so on the phone. So what did I do… I took all the numbers from which that guy calls and gave them to my friends who in turn keep calling him and hang up after the first bell, before he could pick it up… lolz… I’v been doing the same for the past 3 days and every time he calls back I pick up the phone before he could hang up and say “Aaloo…kha kha kha” lolz… so far he has called me around 7-8 times in the past 3 days and every time hears the same thing “Aaloo…kha kha kha”. I call him up 24/7 just to tease him, last night I woke up from sleep for only a few minutes around 3:00 AM and guess what I did? Yup that’s right I called him up and hung up… Im pretty confident that Iv messed around with him so much that he doesn’t have time to go back to his old traits and wouldn’t be calling other people up just to tease them… He has called me up from different numbers just to find out who I am and from what I could understand he was swearing at me… and how did I replied…”Aaloo…kha kha kha…” I have his numbers saved on my cell with the name Crazy Pathan… he may be crazy but its seems Im crazier so if u get a call that says: “Aaloo…kha kha kha…” than that would be me and not the Crazy Pathan… if u want to join in the fun than do contact me for the phone numbers I’ll provide them with a smile on my face… till then “Aaloo…kha kha kha…” November 04 Eid-ul-FitrThe Holy Month of Ramadan ended yesterday and today was the first day of Eid. Eid wasn't celebrated this year like its celebrated every year. The entire nation was in shock and celebrated eid in solidarity after the recent devastating earth quake that struck this great nation of ours in the first week of Ramadan. Through out Ramadan the shopping centers showed a deserted look as people just weren’t in the mood to celebrate eid and who would be. Talks were going on every where that instead of spending lavishly on eid we should give that amount to our brothers in need who lost everything one day. Lets hope that Eid there bought a smile to the faces of the people effected by the earth quake and they can now try to put that bloody day behind and move on. |
